Mérida

Mérida has stood out among the best cities to travel to in recent years. The incredible tourist proposal of the capital of Yucatán makes it an unmissable destination thanks to the wide range of possibilities it offers to visitors.

Mérida is in the northwest of Yucatán and is the capital of the state.

The city was founded in 1542 by Francisco de Montejo “El Mozo” on the remains of the Mayan city T’ho, it was named Mérida after his hometown in Spain. These Mayan and colonial roots are still very visible in many of the buildings of the Historic Downtown today. They can even be seen in the same building, as is the case of the Cathedral of San Ildefonso, a colonial construction but with clearly Mayan glyphs.

The main areas of interest for visitors are usually the Historic Downtown and Paseo de Montejo. These are ideal for exploring its traditional neighborhoods and markets, splendid mansions, as well as museums and historical monuments. At night, Merida is full of life, thanks to the numerous modern restaurants and bars in recent years.

Our tropical climate, architecture, human warmth and proximity to the beach, as well as impressive geological formations, such as cenotes and caves, have made more than one person fall in love with us.

It should be noted that Mérida has been recognized as the safest city in Mexico in recent years, ranking second as a metropolis with the best safety conditions on the American continent, behind Quebec in Canada. This is due to a variety of factors that work together to create a safe and peaceful environment for residents and visitors, such as its low crime rate, strong sense of community, safe and reliable public transportation system, and excellent tourism infrastructure. . The city has managed to maintain a safe and peaceful environment thanks to the teamwork between local and state authorities, residents and tourists. If you are looking for a safe place to visit or live in Mexico, Mérida is definitely a great option.
